Dr Oz Recommends Probiotics – Dr Mehmet Oz says probiotic yogurt is good for you and recommends eating probiotics after you consume those tasty carbohydrates.
On TV, Dr oz recommended probiotics as a method of breaking down certain nutrients in carbohydrates, which are an important part of our diet, that our bodies could not otherwise digest.
Dr Oz says the breakdown of carbs, done by gut microbes in the body, is an important part of digestive health, producing nutrients such as vitamin K and biotin, telling the hormones in our bodies when to store fat and preventing the growth of harmful bacteria.
There are many health claims by the makers of probiotic yogurt, but in addition to supporters like Dr Oz, recent research by scientists from the Washington University School of Medicine goes a long way to bolstering their validity. The findings, published in the Science Translational Medicine journal, found that bacterial strains found in the yogurt, more efficiently broke down certain classes of carbohydrates and prevented the growth of harmful bacteria.
So, the good news is the next time you eat those two slices of pizza or the yummy french baguette sandwich, beat the guilt trip with a dessert of probiotic yogurt!
